Belize is small, English-speaking, and relatively straightforward logistically.


Day 1 – Arrival → Transfer to Island


Arrive at Belize City International Airport (BZE).

Transfer options to the islands:

Option 1 – Water taxi (budget):
- Taxi from airport to Belize City water taxi terminal (~30 min)
- Boats to Caye Caulker or San Pedro (Ambergris Caye)
- 45–90 min depending on destination

Option 2 – Domestic flight (faster, scenic):
- Small plane from BZE to San Pedro or Caye Caulker
- ~15 minutes
- More expensive but very convenient

Choose your base:
- Caye Caulker – smaller, more relaxed
- San Pedro (Ambergris Caye) – more developed, more tour options

Days 2–5 – Reef & Snorkeling Days


Main reason to visit Belize: the barrier reef.

Popular snorkeling destinations:
- Hol Chan Marine Reserve
- Shark Ray Alley
- Coral gardens
- Mexico Rocks (near Ambergris)

Tours:
- Half-day and full-day boat tours depart daily
- Equipment included
- Book with licensed operators

What to expect:
- Calm Caribbean waters
- Excellent visibility in dry season
- Nurse sharks and rays are common

Afternoons:
- Beach time
- Short island walks
- Sunset views over the Caribbean

Day 6 – Move to Mainland (Optional)


Return to Belize City by boat or flight.

From Belize City:
- Shuttle to San Ignacio (~2 hours)
- Rental car pickup
- Organized transfer

San Ignacio is the main base for jungle and Maya ruins.

Alternative mainland base:
- Placencia (longer transfer, more beach-oriented)

Day 7 – Jungle, Ruins & Inland Nature


From San Ignacio:

Maya ruins:
- Xunantunich (most popular, easy access)
- Cahal Pech (closer to town)
- Caracol (longer drive, requires 4x4 or tour)

Nature options:
- Mountain Pine Ridge waterfalls
- Rio On Pools
- ATM Cave (guided only, advance booking required)

How to visit:
- Rental car for flexibility
- Guided tour for remote sites

This day adds historical and ecological depth to the trip.

Day 8 – Return to BZE & Departure


Travel back to Belize City International Airport (BZE).

Allow:
- 2+ hours transfer from San Ignacio
- Extra buffer during rainy season

Departure.


Transportation

Islands:

  • Golf carts are primary transport on Ambergris
  • Caye Caulker is walkable

Between island and mainland:

  • Water taxis run several times daily
  • Domestic flights are faster but cost more

Mainland:

  • Shuttles connect Belize City and San Ignacio
  • Rental car useful for jungle exploration
  • Public buses are cheap but slower and less comfortable

Safety Notes

Belize is generally safe in tourist areas.

  • Avoid certain parts of Belize City after dark
