Danang – Beaches, Cafés & Main Transport Hub

Danang is the most practical base in Central Vietnam and one of the easiest cities in the country for a comfortable stay.

Why visit:
• Long city beaches with easy daily access
• Modern infrastructure and straightforward logistics
• Good base for Hoi An, Hue, and nearby sights

Base:
• My Khe Beach area for beach access and a wider hotel choice
• Central Danang for shorter city transfers

Places to visit:
• My Khe Beach – the main urban beach
• Marble Mountains – caves, pagodas, and viewpoints
• Linh Ung Pagoda / Lady Buddha – coastal views from Son Tra Peninsula
• Dragon Bridge – most atmospheric in the evening
• Ba Na Hills – large resort-style excursion with cable cars and the Golden Bridge

How long:
• 3–5 days works well
• Longer stays are practical if using Danang as the main base

How to get there:
• Danang has the main airport for the region
• Trains and buses also connect it well with Hue and the rest of Vietnam

Hoi An – Old Town & Slow-Paced Stay

Hoi An is the most atmospheric stop in Central Vietnam and works best as a slower stay rather than a rushed visit.

Why visit:
• Preserved old town architecture
• Easy walking and cycling

Base:
• Stay in Hoi An if the old town atmosphere is the main priority
• Visit as a day trip from Danang if time is limited

Places to visit:
• Old Town – historic streets, temples, houses, and assembly halls
• Riverside and An Hoi area – especially pleasant in the evening
• Countryside roads – best explored by bicycle
• An Bang Beach – simple beach extension close to town

How long:
• 2–3 days works well
• Day trip from Danang is possible, but an overnight stay gives a better feel for the town

How to get there:
• Taxi or ride-hailing from Danang
• Shuttle services also operate between the two cities

What to know:
• Hoi An is most pleasant early in the morning and again in the evening

Hue – Imperial Monuments & Pagodas

Hue is the main historical stop in Central Vietnam and the best choice for imperial-era sites.

Why visit:
• The country's most important imperial heritage in one city
• Stronger historical focus than Danang or Hoi An
• Good contrast with the coast

Base:
• Hue city center for the whole stay

Places to visit:
• Imperial City – the main monument complex
• Royal tombs – usually visited by taxi, driver, or organized tour
• Thien Mu Pagoda – classic riverside stop
• Perfume River area – lighter city walks between historic visits

How long:
• 2–3 days is usually enough

How to get there:
• Train from Danang is the most scenic connection
• Bus and private transfer are also straightforward

What to know:
• Hue works best for travelers interested in history rather than beach time
• The main sites are spread out more than in Hoi An, so transport planning matters more

Transportation

  • Danang is the main air hub for this route
  • Danang ↔ Hoi An is usually done by taxi, ride-hailing, or shuttle
  • Danang ↔ Hue works well by train, bus, or private transfer
